Preserving Elkhart Lake for generations to come


Thank you for interest in becoming a member of the Elkhart Lake Improvement Association, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.  Since 1964, ELIA has been a voice to preserve the beauty and native ecology of Elkhart Lake.  ELIA is compromised of Elkhart Lake residents, Sheboygan County community members, and advocates for the Lake. Your membership helps the Association promote, preserve and enhance the general welfare of the lake through furthering water safety, pollution control, environmental maintenance and public education. Boating Safety

  • Maintain and place buoys
  • Help fund police boat and police pier
  • Initiate boating rules
  • Address boating pressure concerns

Lake Water Quality

  • Monitor lake water quality
  • Identify pollution source, work to reduce levels
  • Pursue grant funding for lake studies
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data
  • Educate residents on good shore land living practices
  • Control all invasive species


  • Increase public awareness of ELIA
  • Hold annual meeting and other educational and fundraising events for membership and community.

Government Relations

  • Encourage intergovernmental cooperation (Town of Rhine, Village of Elkhart Lake, DNR, Sheboygan County)
  • Educate local governments on lake concerns
  • Partner with other conservation groups in watershed to increase awareness of lake issues

Public Outreach

  • Maintain ELIA website
  • Produce and distribute ELIA news letter
  • Distribute information kits on shore land living practices to new residents
  • Provide educational presentations in the community
